Lee Jay Berman

Lee Jay Berman is founder and President of the American Institute of Mediation, having previously served as Director of Pepperdine Law School’s “Mediating the Litigated Case” program for seven years. With over 26 years of experience as a commercial mediator and over 2,400 mediations completed, he brings real-world expertise to his training, lectures, and keynote presentations on mediation, conflict resolution, and negotiation.

Lee Jay serves on the elite Master Mediator panel for employment matters with the American Arbitration Association and holds positions with several prestigious organizations including the International Academy of Mediators (Distinguished Fellow) and the National Association of Distinguished Neutrals (Charter Diplomat). He has received numerous awards including “Distinguished Neutral of the Year” (2017), “Mediator of the Year” (2019), and has been twice named a “Top Neutral” by California’s Daily Journal.

He has trained professionals in 19 states and internationally in Amsterdam, Dubai, New Delhi, New Zealand, Australia, Croatia, and Jordan. His international work includes helping write the Delhi High Court’s Mediation Rule of Law, later adopted by India’s Supreme Court.

Lee Jay has taught at major universities including Pepperdine, University of Texas-Austin, and Southern Methodist University. He chairs the ABA Dispute Resolution Section’s Training Committee, has published dozens of articles, and authors the popular blog “Eye On Conflict.”
